How do I make a nomination?

When is the best time to make a nomination?

We accept nominations at any time. However, our considerations for each round begin about nine to 10 months before a list is published. So even if a nomination is successful, it will not be made immediately.

Can people who already hold honours be nominated for a further award?

Yes. After five years they can be nominated for an award at a higher level. It is important you make it clear what they have done since their original honour to justify a further award.

Can foreign nationals be nominated?

Yes. If successful they would qualify for an ?honorary? award. If you are in doubt about a nominee?s nationality, discreet enquiries should be made to find out if they hold the nationality of another country or if they have dual nationality.

What should I do if my nominee is active in a variety of areas?

If the majority of their work is covered by the Department, we will be pleased to receive the nomination. If their work is split equally between the policy areas of a number of Government departs, you should send the form to the Cabinet Office.  Alternatively, if their work falls mainly within the area of one other department, their own honours secretariat should be able to help you.
