Simplifying regulation

Our approach to simplifying regulation

Communities and Local Government has put together a clear plan showing how we will simplify our existing regulation and demonstrating how we are finding new, easier ways for businesses to comply with Government requirements. This is known as our Simplification Plan.

As part of this Plan we are taking three steps to help simplify regulations:

  • To help businesses plan in advance, we make sure most legislation likely to affect them comes into force on one of two "common commencement dates" each year: 6 April and 1 October
  • We publish a list of all regulations affecting businesses that we expect to introduce over the coming year. This is called the Statement of Forthcoming Regulations
  • We are inviting businesses and other stakeholders to contact us with their suggestions about how we can further simplify regulations. These ideas might be included in future revisions of the Plan

Contact us with suggestions for Department regulations which you think are suitable for simplification, or for general advice.
