Local authority capital expenditure and receipts, England: 2007-08 Provisional Outturn & 2008-09 Forecast

Find out about National Statistics The latest national statistics on the provisional outturn of capital expenditure and receipts for 2007-08 and forecast for 2008-09 were released on 19 June 2008 under arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Capital expenditure by local authorities in England rose to £18.6 billion in 2007-08, a year-on-year increase of 14 per cent and is forecast to rise to £19.9 billion in 2008-9, a year-on-year increase of 7 per cent.
  • Capital receipts generated by local authorities in England rose to £4.0 billion in 2007-08, a year-on-year increase of 8 per cent and are forecast to remain at that level in 2008-09.
