Affordable Housing Supply, England, 2006/2007
This is a new Communities and Local Government statistical release. The figures contained in this release and accompanying 'housing live tables' are published for the first time on Thursday 12 June 2008.
Key points from the release are:
- A gross total of 44,330 additional affordable homes were supplied in England in 2006/07. Though slightly lower than affordable home supply in 2005/2006, the latest figures are well up on previous years.
- By region, the gross supply of new affordable homes was highest in London and the South East and lowest in the North East. Between 2005/06 and 2006/2007, the annual gross supply of affordable new homes rose in three English regions, fell in four and was steady in two.
- Nearly 25,000 new affordable homes were supplied to the social rented sector in 2006/07, while just over 19,000 homes were delivered via intermediate rent and low cost home ownership schemes.
- Housing Corporation funded new build accounted for 70 per cent of additional affordable homes supply in 2006/2007, up from 62 per cent the previous year. Acquisitions by the Housing Corporation accounted for another 12 per cent of gross additional supply in 2006/2007.
