Communities and neighbourhoods

Peacemaker

Established in 1997, PeaceMaker is an anti-racist youth development organisation, working to foster active citizenship and social responsibility.

Peacemaker specialises in engaging with disaffected and marginalised young people, trying to turn round their attitudes, so they become active advocates within their own communities.

Its existing work includes:

  • a mentoring programme: mentors undergo a comprehensive training programme leading to a recognised qualification, then support identified young people aged 11-14 who are at risk of exclusion; and
  • a peer education programme: a pioneering programme that recruits and trains young people to become advocates of community cohesion within their own communities.
