Improving Opportunity, Strengthening Society
Launched in January 2005, the Improving Opportunity, Strengthening Society strategy sets out the Government's commitment to create strong, cohesive communities in which every individual, whatever their racial or ethnic origin, is able to fulfil their potential through the enjoyment of equal opportunities, rights and responsibilities.
The strategy has two closely linked aims to:
- to increase race equality; and
- to build community cohesion by helping people from different backgrounds get along well together in their local area.
The third and final progress report was published in February 2009. The Government is now seeking views on a future approach to tackling race inequalities. You can read more about this below.
