Stopping religious discrimination

We're making it harder for anyone to discrimate against you because of your religion or beliefs (or lack of religion or belief).
Part 2 of the Equality Act 2006 came into force on April 30th 2007: this prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief in the following areas:

  • education
  • the provision of goods, facilities or services
  •  the management of premises
  •  the exercising of public functions

There are a number of common-sense exceptions to the law, where some forms of discrimination are allowed, for example, for organisations that have a purpose related to a religion or belief.
