Review of Key Regeneration Schemes

What is it?

A review of regeneration schemes at risk in each region led by the Regional Development Agencies working closely with English Partnerships and other partners.

Why are we doing it?

Physical regeneration remains a priority for this Government, which has a strong track record in renewing some of our most deprived communities. The Government will look to take action to alleviate any negative effects given current market conditions.

How will it work?

The Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and Communities and Local Government have asked Regional Development Agencies to take the lead, working closely with the Homes and Communities Agency (and its predecessor bodies the Housing Corporation and English Partnerships) and other regional partners, in considering regeneration schemes in their region which may be at risk or are already stalling, and take a view on how the regions can ensure that projects offering best value for money and which will deliver the most far reaching impacts still go forward.

What happens next?

Each region will conduct its own review and come to its own conclusions, but we would like the results to be pulled together into a single report to go to Ministers for information only. Bob Kerslake will be personally involved for the Homes and Communities Agency. We are asking Alan Clarke, Chief Executive of One North East to take the lead for the Regional Development Agencies.
