Aim and objectives

Aim

English Partnerships' principle aim is to 'deliver high quality sustainable growth in England.'

This is consistent with the broader objectives of the Regional Development Agencies (RDA), the work of the Housing Corporation and with the Department's overarching aim of 'thriving, inclusive and sustainable communities in all regions'.

EP's general approach will be to concentrate its activity on the earlier stages of major projects, bringing parties together, specifying high standards and setting the framework, leaving other partners to make their own contribution at later stages. In this way English Partnerships will seek to complement the programmes of RDAs, local authorities, the Housing Corporation and others by bringing forward, often at their request, fully prepared sites and strategies.

EP's overall aim is to achieve high quality, well designed, sustainable places for people to live, work and enjoy.

Objectives

English Partnerships' five core business areas under the main aim can be summarised as:

  • Developing its portfolio of strategic sites
  • Acting as the government's specialist advisor on brownfield land
  • Ensuring that surplus public sector assets are used to support wider Government objectives, especially those contained in the Sustainable Communities Plan
  • Helping to create communities where people can afford to live and want to live
  • Supporting the urban renaissance by improving the quality of our towns and cities
