The new English Partnerships was created in May 1999 with the merger of the Commission for the New Towns (CNT) and the Urban Regeneration Agency (URA). The two organisations carry out their activities under the name English Partnerships.
English Partnerships is the national regeneration agency helping the Government to support high quality sustainable growth in England. It is a key delivery body for the Government's Sustainable Communities programme which addresses housing shortages, homes for key workers, affordable housing and the problems of abandonment and decay. It also has a major role in the regeneration and remediation of brownfield land.
It works closely with other stakeholders, including the Housing Corporation, Regional Development Agencies, local government and the private sector.
