The State of the Cities Database

The State of the Cities Database (SOCD) has been created to provide access to updated data that underpins the State of the English Cities Report (SOCR), published by the department in March 2006.

The database contains all the key indicators of urban performance used in the report and allows users to identify in greater detail recent changes in English cities and will allow future monitoring of cities and the impact of policies.

The indicators are available for 56 cities in England (built up or urban areas with a population of 125,000 or more). The database can be accessed at : http://www.socd.communities.gov.uk/socd/

Users will be able to:

  • Find any of the 56 cities represented in SOCR;
  • View a standard or custom defined report for a city;
  • Compare a city with another city or with its local authority or compare it with its wider Travel to Work Area (TTWA);
  • Produce charts and maps of indicators, and
  • Export reports to PDF.
