About the European Urban Knowledge Network (EUKN)The EU Informal Council on Urban Development in Leipzig on 24 May 2007, EU Ministers agreed to the continuation of the project, following the successful pilot, for the period 2007-2010. |

Fifteen European Member States are participating in the EUKN project:
Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands and United Kingdom. The European Commission, and the Eurocities group are also working with the network to strengthen the evidence base around the performance of cities across Europe and urban policy development more widely.
Exchanging urban experience and stimulating co-operation within Europe will help to strengthen cities and enables them to make a sustained and powerful contribution to the economic, environmental and social success of Europe as a whole.
The EUKN portal site contains research findings, policy papers and good practice from partners across Europe on six urban policy themes. All documents found on the site cover one or more of these themes:
The EUKN portal and the national websites serving as focal points will form an interactive communication hub and discussion forum for national policy and decision makers, researchers and practitioners.
The long-term goal is to create a wider and stronger evidence base across Europe for developing policies towards cities and city-regions, including practical models of what works and doesn't work, so cities and urban projects can more easily benchmark their performance against each other. It will provide a resource for policy-makers and practitioners in European cities, local, regional and national governments.
The UK National Focal Point is administered by Communities and Local Government and the Academy for Sustainable Communities - http://www.eukn.org/unitedkingdom.
