Summary

Planning Policy Statement 12: Local Development Frameworks (PPS12) sets out the Government's policy on the preparation of local development documents which will comprise the local development framework. This replaces Planning Policy Guidance 12: Development Plans (PPG12) published in December 1999.

Please note: This PPS has been replaced by Planning Policy Statement 12: Local Spatial Planning published on 4 June 2008. However, Planning Policy Statement 12: Local Development Frameworks will remain in operation for local development documents prepared before that date.

Note: The above publication was issued by our former department, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). ODPM became Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on 5 May 2006 - all references in the text to ODPM now refer to Communities and Local Government.
