This publication is now out of date and should no longer be referred to and has been superseded by The Code for Sustainable Homes: Setting the Sustainability Standards for New Home which was published on 27 February 2008, and sets out the current assessment process and the performance standards required for the Code.
For the latest technical issues relating to the Code you should now refer to the Code for Sustainable Homes: Technical Guide publication.
This Code is a standard for key elements of design and construction which affect the sustainability of a new home. It will become the single national standard for sustainable homes for designers, builders and home-buyers. It will form the basis for future developments of the Building Regulations in relation to carbon emissions from, and energy use in, homes, therefore offering greater regulatory certainty to developers.
In this era of environmental awareness amongst consumers and increasing demand for a more sustainable product, it will offer a tool for developers to differentiate themselves, obtaining a 'star rating' to demonstrate the environmental performance of a new home.
This booklet explains what the code is and how it works. It also included tables showing the criteria that assessors could use to measure achievement of sustainability performance under the code.
This publication is out of print. For information on availability please email publication.query@communities.gsi.gov.uk
