Summary

On 13 December 2006, the Code for Sustainable Homes - a new national standard for sustainable design and construction of new homes was launched.

The April 2008 version of the technical guidance now only applies to homes registered before 3 November 2008. This publication has been superseded by The Code for Sustainable Homes: Technical Guide October 2008   version which was published on 8 October 2008 and will apply to new homes registered on or after the 3 November 2008.

This technical guidance sets out the requirements for the Code, and the process by which a Code assessment is reached. It aims to make gaining a Code assessment as simple, transparent and rigorous as possible.

This technical guidance manual underpins the publication: The Code for Sustainable Homes: Setting the standard in sustainability for new homes  that was published on 27 February 2008.

A summary publication: Code for Sustainable Homes: Summary of Changes to the Technical Guidance April 2008    which details changes between the October 2007 and April 2008 versions has also been published.

On 4 June 2008 we published a Statement of changes to the Technical Guide and an Addendum to the Technical Guide - April 2008, which highlighted a small number of amendments that have been made to the publication. Amongst these are corrections and clarifications to a number of references which inadvertently suggested that changes had been made in the Code relating to compliance with the energy performance requirement.

Previous versions of the technical guidance are now out of date and therefore should no longer be referred to.
