This publication is one of a series issued to provide practical guidance on the requirements of the Building Regulations 2000 for England and Wales. It deals with fire safety requirements for building work and provides a consolidation of the guidance previously issued in the original 2000 edition of Approved Document B and the subsequent amendments issued in 2000 and 2002. It covers the following requirements: means of warning and escape (B1); internal fire spread (linings) (B2) and internal fire spread (structure) (B3); external fire spread (B4); access and facilities for the fire service (B5).
Note: Any applications that are received before 6 of April 2007 should follow the guidance contained in the Approved Document B 2000 edition. Applications for any new building work that are made to Building Control Bodies on or after 6 of April 2007 should follow the guidance contained in the new Approved Document B (Volumes 1 and 2).
