Summary

The DETR quarterly house price index started in 1968 and is currently based on data from the ongoing Survey of Mortgage Lenders. DETR also commissions questions on the ONS Omnibus Survey on householders expectations of what will happen to house prices. This summary, written by David Wall and Jonathan Swan of Housing Statistics, looks at some of the latest data from these surveys and also compares the two measures. A comparison is also made between the DETR index and the Halifax and Nationwide indices.
