The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is committed through the cross -government Respect Action Plan to developing a new 'Respect Standard' for housing management aimed primarily at social landlords.
The Standard will act a simple and clear summary of the critical factors that constitute an effective response to Anti-Social Behaviour. In signing up to it landlords will make a public commitment to delivering an effective service.
The standard will focus on getting the basics right. While it is concerned with those basics the aim will be to establish a demanding benchmark which will challenge the social housing sector to strive for continuous improvement. It will range across the prevention, support and enforcement agendas placing a strong emphasis on engaging and empowering residents.
We do not want to impose a standard on landlords but rather want to work with the sector and other key stakeholders, not least residents, in developing a robust and clear standard that builds on existing best practice. To this end we have published a consultation document inviting views on a draft standard.
