Summary

Although the collection of monthly data on house prices is well established at present there are no reliable official statistics on PRS rent levels other than on an annual basis. This summary report sets out the background and technical detail underlying a new index of private rents, launched on an experimental basis. The rental data is based solely on information collected through the Survey of English Housing.
