Introductory Statement for Corrected Version of the Indices of Deprivation 2004
The Indices of Deprivation 2004 (revised edition)
New versions of the data sets comprising the ID 2004 and the accompanying reports have been published. The revisions were necessary to correct two errors in the data sets. The errors occurred in creating the two new domains in the Index - Living Environment and Crime. In the former, one set of data was input in the wrong rank order. In the latter, there was a technical error in the way in which the data was smoothed to deal with inaccuracies introduced by small numbers of particular crimes. These errors have now been corrected, and very extensive checks have been made to ensure as far as possible that there are no further such errors in the Index.
New CD ROMS are being produced and will be sent to all those who previously received a copy. If you did not receive a copy of the first version on CD and would like to receive the revised data, please email your contact details including postal address to indices.deprivation@communities.gsi.gov.uk
